WE POWER THE WORLD WITH SUSTAINABLE ENERGY, ONE PROJECT AT A TIME, SINCE 2013
2013
Citus Power was founded in 2013 as a small project development office based in Istanbul, with the purpose of developing and investing in reneweable energy projects in Turkey’s flourishing renewable energy sector.

We started wind measurements in several sites across Turkey and initiated licensing and permitting procedures for 4 wind projects with a total capacity of 230 MW.

We became one Turkey’s first generation solar PV investors by starting development for a 9 MW solar PV project in Kayseri, Turkey.

Our wind projects with a total capacity of 230 MW were fully acquired by one of the world’s leading energy companies Acwa Power. We initiated wind measurements for new projects in several sites at the same time.

Our 9 MW Yahyali SPP project reached ready-to-build stage. The decision was made to invest in the project and to build it ourself. This was our first EPC experience and also the one which made us the company we are today, known for the quality and longevity of the projects we build and operate.

Yahyali SPP became operational in 2016, becoming the 6th largest solar PV project in Turkey at the time. We operated this project for 4 years having developed, engineered and built it. We experienced first hand the results (good and bad) of the technical decisions we made. This gave us the perspective of a long term investor and operator which is what differentiates us from shortsighted contractors who focus on minimizing construction cost.We realized early on the importance of and developments in the energy storage sector and started teaching ourselves to size, engineer and build these projects.

Having developed, built and operated one of the largest solar PV plants in Turkey, we started offering buy-side technical and financial due diligence to investors looking to acquire solar PV projects and we also operated their projects on behalf of them.

We offered advisory services for energy storage business models to Turkey’s major electricitiy distribution companies and wind power plant operators.

Yahyali SPP, which we developed, built and operated for 4 years was acquired by another investor.

This same year we expanded our EPC team to service the rapidly growing self-consumption-oriented commercial/industrial rooftop solar PV market in Turkey, as well as the solar + generator microgrid markets in Africa and Asia. Our experience was reflected in the projects that we built and Citus Power quickly became a go-to EPC for those investors looking for quality and excellence and not mere minimum capex, differentiating ourselves from the rest of contractors.

ASA Energy Investments, an international joint-venture between Citus Power and international investors, was founded to develop solar PV and wind projects in Europe and Balkans. We started developing a 65 MW and 50 MW solar PV project in Greece.

By 2022, Citus Power became the EPC choice of complex projects and of investors looking for best build quality.

Our first project in Africa, the 2.3 MW new Senegal Dakar Stadium carport hybrid solar PV project became operational, also became the largest project of its size in West Africa.

2023
We applied for license for our first energy storage project, a 115MW ESS co-located with our solar PV projects.
Our Business Culture

Citus Power develops, invests in, and operates its own renewable energy projects as financial investments. Our founders come from technical backgrounds with careers in finance.

We look at any renewable energy project as a long term investment, and not just a one-time EPC project. Because we usually operate the projects we develop and build, we understand by experience the importance of design, equipment selection, construction quality, and maintenance details. Only with this perspective, solar PV and wind projects can become long term financial investments with maximised returns but also easy to manage, with minimal headache.

This perspective and experience are at the core of our company culture. Whether we build our own or our clients projects, we treat them the same, as long-term financial investments which need to be designed, built, and operated with the best standards.
